You can spend well over $100 for a short shift kit that will do little more than Jon's kit. Shorten the throw of your shift lever up to 25% with a simple 5 minute installation.

MKI for 85-89 MR2 - Short shift bracket with mounting hardware.
MKII for 91/92 MR2 - Short shift bracket with mounting hardware.
93+ for 93-99 MR2 - Short shift bracket with RSe drop plate and mounting hardware (RSe plate required for console clearance).

Lower the grip point on your shifter by installing this custom cut plate from Racing Strong Engineering. This plate is machined to match the mounting holes and opening for your shifter and physically lowers the shaft into the console. A lower shifter gives you more positive control and results in shorter, crisper shifts.

Drop the height of your shift knob over an inch by upgrading to the factory shift lever for 93 and later cars. This is a proven upgrade in 91/92 cars and has been tested with success in the MKI as well. The factory shift knobs supplied prior to 1993 will not work with this lever - we recommend one of our billet AL knobs if you purchase this item.

91/92 Jon O Kit with mounting hardware and the RSe kit offering 7.2mm of shaft drop. The essence of a TRD short shift kit for a fraction of the price. Using the RSe kit on the MKI allows the use of a 91/92 Jon O kit, which increases the reduction in throw from 25% to 33%!

Replace the worn out rubber bushings where the shifter cables attach to the transmission. Solid brass, machined to fit - eliminate the slop from the final point in your cable linkage.

Give yourself more leverage by using adding a solid Aluminum knob to your shifter. Weighs twice as much as the stock MKI and 91/92 knobs and fractionally more than the stock 93+ knob. More weight at the top of the lever means more leverage when pulling off shifts. You won't believe the difference! Available unfinished or in powdercoated colors to dress up your interior.

ShiftKit3 includes the above, plus an OEM 93 lever. Proven upgrade for 91/92 cars. Tested in the MKI with 90% success rate.

*Note: Shortening the throw of the shift lever and taking steps to remove play from the cables will normally amplify existing problems within your shift mechanism. If your synchronizers are bad or on their way out, engaging 1st - 3rd gear may become more difficult with the use of these kits. They are intended to improve the feel and speed of shifting, but will only do so on a vehicle with a properly functioning transmission.
